Ok, So I'm a big fan of Philippa Gregory, having read the Cousins' War
Series and part of the Tudor Series. And so picked up this book next. But it
turned out to be a big disappointment. Most of the book is about the different
plant/flowers/trees/seed etc. that the protagonist, Tradescent
grows/finds/loves and his thoughts about the same. So those parts were really
boring. I had to skip whole paragraphs filled with these descriptions. I guess
it would be a good book for people interested in gardening, which I am not.
The parts that I enjoyed, which were few and far between were about
Tradescent's relationships with all his Masters, his wife and son. The story
over all was not that great, and not at all gripping. I took nearly 10 days to
complete it.
Now I'm regretting buying its sequel Virgin Earth, since it continues the
story of his son, who is also a gardener!! But as always tend to finish things
I've started, I will be reading it next. Hopefully it won’t be as boring.
